If you happen to live around the Houston area, we hope to see you at the fourth annual Houston Indie Book Fest this Saturday (April 2nd) outside the Menil Collection. The book fair starts at 11 a.m. and continues until 5 p.m. There will be live music, an hourly reading series, and dozens of nationally-distributed literary journals, local booksellers, publishers, small presses, literary organizations, and writers exhibiting throughout the day. Co-sponsored by Gulf Coast and NANO Fiction, the festival showcases the efforts of writers, artists, teachers, community members, and cultural groups working on make the arts a vibrant part of the Houston community. Since 2008, the festival has steadily expanded from a small gathering of around a dozen local bookstores to a full-scale regional event. To date, more than 60 exhibitors from all over Texas and the U.S. are scheduled to participate in this year's book fair. Best of all, the event is free! This year's book festival is also on the same day as the Menil's Community Arts Open House, so there will be tours and lots of events for visitors. And have we mentioned that the crepe truck is rolling by to serve lunch? To read more about the vendors, or to see the schedule of featured readers, please visit our website at indiebookfest.org.
